Treadmill Review

Updated: October 5, 2023

In this review of the NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill, it’s obvious what takes center stage–or should I say center deck? The 22-inch HD touchscreen will take your workout from boring to exciting as iFIT’s premium content transports you around the world. NordicTrack’s soft cushioning ensures that cardio has never felt easier. Let the 2450 help you forget you are on a treadmill, though you would never find that bouncy underfoot feel on the road or trail.

Who The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill Is Best For:

  • Exercisers who hate the treadmill but wish they didn’t: NordicTrack knows how to make their iFIT content shine on the 2450. The 22” touchscreen doesn’t let you take your eyes off it. With endless destinations to choose from thanks to iFIT’s integrated Google Maps app, every day can feel like a destination race.
  • Runners looking for extra cushioning: NordicTrack’s soft cushioning complements every stride to make your cardio feel less like a chore. If you hate how road running feels underfoot, this treadmill is much, much softer.
  • Treadmill users wanting a modern, premium machine to add to a dedicated space: While this treadmill folds, the large screen might not be the most suited to regular storage. I recommend a dedicated space where this sleek and modern treadmill will look at home.

Pros And Cons Of The NordicTrack Commercial 2450

Pros PROS

  • The 22” HD touchscreen ensures you get the most out of iFIT’s world-traveling subscription content. NordicTrack has improved the WiFi connectivity of the 2450 to reduce lag and improve graphics.
  • The soft cushioning of this treadmill gives a nice underfoot feel. For road runners, this is a nice recovery run option.
  • iFIT provides thousands of classes to follow from your treadmill, or turn the screen to perform a HIIT, yoga, or strength workout. Without iFIT, there are around 70 different program options.
  • The new 2450 is nearly 50 lbs lighter than the previous model, enhancing the ease of folding/unfolding and relocating the treadmill.
  • Bluetooth connectivity allows you to connect your headphones to dial into iFIT’s trainer-led content or use ActivePulse with a compatible heart rate monitor for heart rate zone training.

Cons CONS

  • With the large screen, no device rack, and an incompatible platform, exercisers hoping to stream their favorite shows or movies will be disappointed as iFIT provides the only content.
  • While the screen wobble is reduced compared to the more affordable 1250, some screen wobble still occurs, particularly for runners who land on their heels.
  • The maximum incline has been reduced to 12%, which is down from the 15% of the previous model.

Treadmill Review Of The NordicTrack Commercial 2450

Build Quality

NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill Full Profile
The 2450 is as sturdy as it is sleek and angular.

Frame

NordicTrack has modernized its Commercial treadmill line by streamlining its two uprights. The steel frame is sturdy and sleek with a sophisticated black plastic covering. The frame feels a little more balanced with the 22” touchscreen than with the smaller screen of the 1250 treadmill. This combo seems to reduce shaking and rattling.

Motor

The 3.6 CHP motor supports heavier running as well as multiple users. My long runs can be upwards of 90 minutes, and this treadmill happily accommodates a run of that length. This is a definite plus if you are training for a marathon.

Running Surface

The deck is a nice size at 20” W x 60” L. Larger users may find a 22” width more comfortable, but I did not notice the reduced 2” width, even though I tend to move side-to-side when I run on a treadmill. A 60” length should be sufficient for most stride lengths, even at higher speeds.

The belt is spacious with great traction.

Folding & Storage

The 2450 is a folding treadmill with a reduced weight from the previous model. I still recommend having a dedicated space for this treadmill where it can fold/unfold easily. Additionally, users should consider the implications of being able to pivot and tilt the screen to accommodate a non-treadmill workout. To take full advantage of iFIT’s content, a dedicated exercise space would complement this treadmill very well.

The treadmill folds nicely with hydraulic assistance for easy lifting and lowering.

Incline/Decline

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 treadmill has seen a decrease in incline range with this model. The incline maxes out at 12% rather than the previous 15%. That said, NordicTrack has two great offerings for incline trainers in the X22i and the X32i for hikers or runners looking for a more extensive incline/decline range.

The incline and decline feel very smooth during use. While using iFIT’s AutoAdjust, I rarely noticed that the incline had changed until I glanced at the screen or started to feel it in my quads. The -3% maximum decline speed does max out at 8 mph, while no restrictions are placed on speed while the treadmill is inclined.

A 12% incline is more than enough to get your calves burning.

Features & Accessories

The 2450 has the largest touchscreen size out of NordicTrack’s Commercial series, which makes this a top feature for this treadmill. The console is simplified and accessible, so you can grab your items or adjust the speed or incline without interrupting your workout. The 2450 stays true to the modern look by giving you exactly what you need without bulky extras.

Console Overview

The console shakes if you land on your heel while running. The console stays stationary throughout your most demanding workouts if you run with a midfoot/forefoot strike like I do. One of the most important aspects of treadmill design for me, as a runner, is the accessibility of the console. The 2450’s console presents all its features at a good level and within reach.

The HD touchscreen dominates the console.

Screen

The screen of the 2450 tilts and pivots so you can somewhat adjust it to your height. At 5’4”, I find the screen is perfect at its neutral position. The pivoting makes utilizing iFIT’s non-treadmill content convenient. Touching the screen while sweaty from exercise did not interfere with navigating the touchscreen.

At 22 inches, the touchscreen showcases iFIT’s vast content library. The screen is high-definition, and I feel like that is reflected in the actual performance of the screen. NordicTrack has taken some steps to reduce lag and improve WiFi connectivity. The few instances I experienced lag were so brief that my workout was never interrupted. I would not have noticed if I had not been looking for it.

NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill - iFIT + Route
It is super easy to become immersed in iFIT’s content because of all the beautiful locations.

Bluetooth

My headphones gave me more trouble connecting to the treadmill than the 2450 did. Pairing was easy from the treadmill’s side. All I needed to do was make sure my headphones were ready and able to pair, and the treadmill found them with a touch of a button. The sound quality was great and added to my immersion in the trainer-led program.

Built-in Speakers

Even the quietest treadmill motors and the lightest-footed runners can make for a loud combination. There’s a reason treadmills are frequently coupled with sound-reducing mats. Fortunately, the 2450 is already on the quieter side, and the speakers are powerful enough to be heard over my clunky footsteps. If you aren’t pairing to Bluetooth headphones, the sound quality through the speakers is great. NordicTrack does a great job of prioritizing its content’s delivery, and this is another instance of its attention to detail.

Cup Holders

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 has two cup holders. I can easily stow a water bottle inside, and my phone fits without annoying rattling as I run. The cup holders are easy to reach. I would use one for water and the other for my phone and some energy gels for a longer run.

Fan

The fan is not adjustable in positioning, but you can adjust its speed. The fan’s cooling is effective and well-positioned.

Performance

On a low-tech treadmill, I check my pace, time, and distance every few seconds. Time just drags on and on. Now writing this review, I don’t think I looked at any of those metrics once–at least, not out of boredom! A 22” screen makes for a cinematic experience on a treadmill where you are up close and personal with the console. The HD quality is apparent when you let iFIT take you to a location around the world. I’m adding destinations to my bucket list after seeing blue waters, green valleys, and gorgeous mountains during my workout on the 2450.

NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill - iFIT + Scenic Route
It is not the same as running outside, but in some ways, it is even better.

NordicTrack’s soft cushioning aids my recovery from the long miles I logged on previous days out on the road and trails. The 2450 does not accurately replicate road running, because the cushioning is too responsive. This treadmill is perfect for runners battling injuries, new to running, or tired of running always feeling so hard all the time. For runners who push themselves a little too hard when running outside, this treadmill is a nice way to dial it back and recover while still logging miles.

NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill - Running + Toe On
Great cushioning and no hitting the motor hood here!

On to the details, the motor hood is less intrusive than most treadmills. I love treadmills in NordicTrack’s Commercial line for this reason, as I am always hitting the motor hood on other brands. NordicTrack added texture to the plastic of the handrails, which provides better grip when getting on and off the 2450. The step-up height (under 10”) should be simple for most users to negotiate. The foot rails are sturdy and did not shift when I stepped off and on the treadmill.

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 transformed my running experience. I am used to grinding out a run on the trails, battling the elements, and slogging over difficult terrain. Running on the 2450 felt like a breath of fresh air for my legs. Yet I didn’t have to completely sacrifice seeing the outdoors. The 22” touchscreen is more than enough, as anything bigger starts to feel quite indulgent. I can be hardheaded about my running preferences, but the soft cushioning of the NordicTrack Commercial series is slowly winning me over. It is a treadmill I will return to when I need to recover and get out of my head.

iFIT Subscription & Content Options

NordicTrack and Proform use the iFIT platform to deliver premium content to their users. The 2450 is fully integrated with iFIT, and this is where the treadmill really shines. Free for the first 30 days, iFIT presents you with hundreds of treadmill-compatible classes, with many more available to you through the iFIT app (available in the Apple and Google Play app stores). iFIT can serve as a full-body fitness coach by tracking all sorts of workouts you complete through the platform.

NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill Screen + iFIT Home
iFIT has thousands of classes to choose from from over a hundred trainers.

The treadmill adapts with AutoAdjust technology to your dream destination run. The incline matches the real-life terrain as accurately as possible while the speed follows along with your instructor. You can override both speed and incline if you wish. iFIT classes are a great way to learn about these awesome locales. On the other hand, if you prefer a traditional coaching experience, iFIT will also let you take a class around a track or inside a studio. I have been thoroughly impressed with the motivational and personable qualities of the instructors. I have my favorites, and iFIT makes it easy to find your preferred content through favorite lists and filtering options.

Without an iFIT subscription, users can still use the treadmill, though WiFi is required for all but the manual activity setting. There are currently about 70 different programs available to non-subscribers. A few of these programs are sample trainer-led classes from iFIT’s premium content. The other programs are incline or speed workout programs that operate on the manual activity screen with preset incline and speed adjustments for hands-free activity.

Bottom Line Review: NordicTrack Commercial 2450 Treadmill

The NordicTrack Commercial 2450 comes in at a higher price than its sister machines, the 1750 and the 1250. This machine's main appeal is the 22” touchscreen and the sturdier build. Both of these features highlight why the 2450 is a premium machine. Cardio is never effortless, something I have accepted as a competitive runner for over a decade. Yet NordicTrack makes the experience that much closer to effortless with the 2450 treadmill. If you are a long-time user of iFIT’s platform or new to it, the 2450 proves why so many people love the fitness platform.
