A large touchscreen can be a pricey feature on a treadmill. The ProForm Pro 9000 is the most affordable treadmill screen over 20 inches that I have found. It’s also an excellent running machine! I have enjoyed every run I have done on its cushioned deck. The ProForm Pro 9000 is an iFIT treadmill and needs a subscription for the best training experience.

iFIT is an excellent treadmill training service, and it deserves a large screen, so you get the most cinematic experience while training. The 22-inch touchscreen display on the ProForm Pro 9000 is one of the best ways to tour the world with iFIT content. The classes follow trails in every country all guided by iFIT’s trainers. Automatic speed and incline adjustments allow exercisers to concentrate on their training rather than pressing a bunch of buttons every time they need to adjust the speed or incline.
The ProForm Pro 9000 is a folding treadmill. It uses hydraulic assistance to help users lift and lower the treadmill deck. The deck is 20” x 60” and cushioned for good shock absorption. The motor is 3.6 continuous horsepower. Walkers and runners can both enjoy the treadmill for their daily training. The Pro 9000 has a maximum weight capacity of 300 lbs. The warranty is a little short at only 10 years for the frame, 2 years for parts, and 1 year for labor, but I like its build. I enjoy running long runs, recovery runs, and interval workouts on the Pro 9000.

But, it is a high-end treadmill with a high stick price. The X32i is named after its giant touchscreen display. I almost think the screen is a little too big, and if you think so too, check out the X22i. The NordicTrack X32i is the perfect treadmill for the walker or runner who wants to maximize features and training capabilities.

With a decline down to 6% and an incline up to 40%, the X32i is made for anyone who wants to climb mountains from the comfort of their home. The NordicTrack X32i is compatible with iFIT content, which is the only content available for its large screen.
iFIT content pairs with the X32i to provide the most extensive training options. iFIT content is filmed around the world and attempts to make you feel like you are out on the trail with the coach. The extensive incline range allows the deck to adjust to the grade shown on the screen. If your iFIT coach is ascending a mountain, you will feel like you are, too. The X32i has incline handles, because the top of that incline is really steep. Trust me, they are necessary. You will also want to use shoes with good traction to stay secure on the tread belt.
The X32i provides a phenomenal training experience. The belt is 22” x 65”. That extra 5 inches in deck length ensures you have plenty of room in front of you and behind you when tackling those steep inclines. The Stride-S is proof that high-tech treadmills don’t have to be bulky.

On the other hand, the Echelon Stride-S requires the subscription. It’s actually pretty tricky to purchase the Echelon Stride-S without a membership. So, this treadmill is for the user who wants high-energy training content.
The Echelon Stride-S has a ten-inch touchscreen on its small console. The console also has speed and incline buttons, but these do not represent the treadmill’s full capabilities. There are additional treadmill controls on the pad at the bottom of the console. Even though the console is small, it also has EKG pulse grips and cup holders. For audio, you can pair a Bluetooth device or use the built-in 2-Watt speakers. These are great options for such a small treadmill.
The Echelon Stride-S’s compact design is so impressive because the console and uprights fold down to the deck. The console tips back, and then the uprights can be let down using the foot lever. This allows the treadmill to be stored under furniture with a 10-inch clearance or upright. It has a rear grab bar to help users lift it into a vertical position.
Despite its small size, the Echelon Stride-S is a running treadmill. It has a maximum speed of 12 mph and 12 levels of incline. The top level is a 10% grade, which may not seem like much compared to most treadmills, but it’s a lot more than I expected on a treadmill that folds flat. The Matrix TF50 has a 22-inch touchscreen display preloaded with all of the standard apps. There’s Netflix, Spotify, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Kindle, and more. There’s even web browsing. If these options aren’t enough, the console has an HDMI port where you can connect a device and stream anything you would like. The TF50 also has iFIT and is one of the only iFIT-compatible treadmills that has other content options.
Runners and walkers will enjoy the TF50, but it is definitely designed with runners in mind. The treadmill is pricey, so it will be best for users with extensive training plans. The treadmill inclines to 15% but does not decline. The maximum speed is 12.5 mph. The motor is 3.25 HP, which is a little underpowered considering what we normally see at this price point. However, the treadmill has a great 400 lb weight capacity and a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor. The TF50 should handle a daily long-distance running routine.

I recommend the NordicTrack EXP 7i for walkers and runners who want smart training only some of the time. It’s the perfect treadmill for the user who doesn’t want to feel like they are missing out on subscription content and aren’t yet sure it is for them.

The NordicTrack EXP 7i has a 7-inch touchscreen display. It’s one of the smallest screens on this list, but it shows the same iFIT content found on the 2450 and X32i. Navigating the screen is harder on such a small screen, and users with vision issues may not be as comfortable using it. The experience is slightly better than watching content on your phone. There’s a tablet rack for viewing other types of content on your phone and Bluetooth audio to listen quietly. Even though the screen is small, you get all the benefits of trainer-led content and smart features at a more affordable price.
iFIT classes are filmed in locations around the world. While these classes are harder to see on the EXP 7i, the other features perform excellently. There are thousands of classes that automatically control the treadmill’s speed and incline settings. Better yet, if you override the presets, iFIT will learn your fitness level over time to adjust the classes to your abilities. The EXP 7i is also compatible with Bluetooth heart rate monitors. Many of iFIT’s treadmill classes use ActivePulse technology to adjust the speed to keep you in a specific heart rate zone. It’s a super cool way to get training customized for you.
The NordicTrack EXP 7i’s build is best for light running, smaller runners, and walking. The motor is 2.6 HP, which is a little underpowered compared to the 3.0 HP we typically recommend for running. The deck is 20” x 55”. Most running home treadmills have deck lengths of 60 inches, so runners with longer strides may not be as comfortable on the EXP 7i. As a 5’4” runner, I felt like I had plenty of room. While it’s not best for long, daily runs, the EXP 7i is a great option for runners who need a treadmill as a backup for days with bad weather. The deck is really soft, so it is also perfect for runners and walkers who need a recovery day.

Large touchscreen displays can certainly increase the cost of your treadmill. It’s worth considering how this feature fits into your budget. A built-in screen allows the treadmill’s other built-in features to work seamlessly with the content shown on the screen. It also reduces the likelihood of your personal device falling from a device rack, keeps you from needing a remote control on hand, and reduces the number of buttons you may need to press while training. Yet, the larger the screen becomes, the higher the price. Your other viewing options are a TV, tablet, or phone. These options can save you money, because you already own them (most likely).
Overall, you should consider whether a built-in display is better than viewing content on your personal device.
Content Options
Perhaps even more important than whether the treadmill has a screen is what content that screen shows. Some treadmills limit their onscreen content to a single training platform. Such training platforms may require a monthly subscription to access content. Without an active subscription, these treadmills may lose many of their features. NordicTrack, ProForm, and Echelon treadmills fall under this category. Other treadmills offer a training platform but also have entertainment streaming content from Netflix and other similar apps. These treadmills include the Bowflex and Peloton brands. Lastly, the most unlocked treadmill screens come from Sole and Matrix.
Subscriptions

If you are looking for a treadmill with a screen, you will need to consider the additional cost of ongoing subscriptions. Some treadmills’ features may be drastically reduced without an active subscription. Runners and walkers who do not plan to maintain an active subscription for these treadmills long-term should consider what features will remain on the treadmill. The entertainment options available on some of these treadmills will require an active subscription, though you may already have one.
