Proform Power 995 vs. Sole F63

The Proform Power 995 is furnished with a 3.0 CHP motor. The quiet, yet strong and durable motor is built to keep itself cool, and not burnout or explode no matter how hard or long you run on it. Many treadmills at this price have a feel of fragility and tend to feel that you’re working them too hard after a good intense run. Not so with the Power 995. The motor is designed to be quiet and problem free for as long as possible, and hold up under extreme use. While it isn’t as large as some of the 3.5 chp motors of some of the more expensive ones, it is still a very impressive motor.

The Sole F63 has a 2.5 chp motor which at first glance is a bit of a turnoff, but at closer look, while still a little puny, is not as unimpressive as you might have initially thought. It operates with just a low hum, with RPMs that are decently low and quiet. The lifetime warranty helps also.

When it comes to specification measurements, the Proform takes an apparent lead. The belt area on the Proform is a full length 20″ x 60″ compared to the Sole’s 20″ x 55″. Those extra 5″ inches can make a noticeable difference, especially for tall people. The Sole’s treadbelt is a bit more solid as it is a double ply. The weight capacity is the same for both. 325 lbs is a decent weight capacity. If you like to run intense runs and you’re pretty heavy, there are stronger treadmills. However, if you’re light, or if you don’t run extremely hard, the deck will hold up okay for either of them.

If you compare the quality, Sole’s have a better reputation than Proforms for holding up longer. However, with the improvements that Proform has been putting into their machines as of late, that quality gap may be about closed. The cushioning on the proform is Proshox Elite 2, which uses air cushioning to soften your landing. The Sole uses shock absorption that works, but isn’t quite as comfortable as the Proform’s. Well, both of these treadmills beat all of the others in the price range. Both of them win a best buy position, but out of the two the Proform offers more for the cost, and so it earns its place as #1 in the best buys for the year!
