Both the C990 and Power 995i have their own strengths, such as the engaging visual display on the C990 and the higher incline range on the Power 995i. In the end, we chose the Power 995i as our favorite treadmill but the race was close and you may decide differently.

Cost – Both of these treadmills have a place in the best treadmills under $1,000 category, as they are generally both priced around $999. However, more often, the Power 995i will drop lower and only cost $899. In contrast, the C990 tends to creep up in price and cost $1,099.

Weight Capacity – Finding an affordable treadmill with a high weight capacity can be tough, yet the C990 can provide a user with a max weight of 300 lbs with a comfortable place to workout on. For those who need a little more support, the Power 995i can hold a user who weighs up to 325 lbs.

Available Programs – These treadmills have nearly the same amount of available workout programs, with 32 programs on the C990 and 30 programs on the Power 995i. On the Power 995i, the workout programs are split between tempo and interval workouts.

Dimensions – The dimensions of the Power 995i are 66.75” tall, 81” long, and 37” in width, making this treadmill one of the larger treadmills in its price range as the C990 dimensions are 60.3” tall, 79.5” long, and 35.5” in width. While the broader dimensions of the Power 995i may add to its sturdiness, it does make it difficult for some to find a space for a treadmill of its size.

Running Surface – Identical between these two treadmills is their running surfaces. Both have non-stretch treadmill belts which have a 2-ply thickness. The actual running area is the same as well, measuring 20” wide and 60” long.

Folding – As NordicTrack and ProForm are sister companies, there are several aspects of the C990 and Power 995i which are the same. One of these similarities is the folding hydraulic system mechanism found underneath both of these treadmills.

The hydraulic mechanism allows users to lift up the deck of these treadmills more easily, as it reduces the effort needed to lift. Both treadmill release levers are located under the treadmill near the base of the deck, which can be released by depressing the latch with the user’s foot. These treadmill decks can be lowered hands-free as the hydraulic mechanism will slow the descent of the decks.

Motor Size – Also the same between these treadmills is their motor size. The C990 and the Power 995i have a 3.0 CHP motor. This size of a motor is powerful enough for walkers, joggers, and even runners.

Incline Range – The incline range on the Power 995i outclasses the C990 as the Power 995i has an incline range of 0% to 15% while the C990 has a slightly smaller range of 0% to 12%. With the extra incline, the Power 995i can provide, users can burn calories faster and challenge their bodies more completely.

Speed – Standard on most treadmills in this price range and above, both the C990 and Power 995i can reach a top speed of 12 MPH.

Fans – Both the Power 995i and the C990 have strong fans to cool down the treadmill users. They come with multiple speeds and can be set on auto to adjust to the intensity of the workout of the user. However, the C990 fans are positioned more towards the user’s face, while the Power 995i fans are directed more toward the user’s core, cooling them more effectively.

Heart Rate Monitoring – Handlebar grips to read a user’s heart rate are on both the Power 995i and the C990. While these grips are not terribly accurate, both treadmills are compatible with Bluetooth heart rate monitoring chest straps. Neither treadmill comes with a chest strap, so it will have to be bought separately by users who want an accurate read on their heart rate.

Treadmill Weight – The C990 outweighs the Power 995i by 20 lbs. This weight difference doesn’t always make an appreciable difference unless the user needs to lift up their treadmill to move it. That is when the 225 lbs of the Power 995i makes the task easier than the 245 lbs of the C990.

Look and Feel Of The Treadmill


Materials – Both treadmills present a sleek, high-tech look. From the treadmill decks which are split by cushioning systems to the integrated tablet holders, both the C990 and the Power 995i are built with similar materials. However, some of the molded plastic parts on the C990 are slightly thinner than the Power 995i, particularly around the console.

Sturdiness – The base of the Power 995i is wider and longer than the C990, adding stability and sturdiness to the Power 995i. It also has a greater weight capacity than the C990, adding to the overall durability of the Power 995i.

Moving the treadmill – Only one person is needed to move either of these treadmills as they are relatively light and easy to maneuver. However, the C990 can simply roll once in the upright position as it has four wheels on its base. The Power 995i need to be folded up and then tilted onto its two wheels to be rolled to a different location.

Cushioning – On the Power 995i, users have the ProShox cushioning to take away some of the pounding stress with four shocks positioned near the middle of the treadmill deck. The C990 FlexSelect allows for more versatility, as it comes with six cushioning points where the user can adjust the level of cushion on the deck. With a simple twist of the cushioning point, users can change the cushioning to suit their preference. This feature is particularly useful when there will be multiple users of the treadmill.

User Interface


Speed and Incline Controls – Both treadmills’ speed and incline controls have all the whole interval speed and incline levels available. Users will need to scroll using the adjustment buttons for the in-between interval speeds and incline levels. The Power 995i controls are more accessible as they are laid out on the lower part of the treadmill console. Shorter runners may have a more difficult time reaching the higher inclines and speeds on the C990 especially if they are moving at a fast pace.

Fan Controls – Responsive to light touches and able to be set on auto, the C990 and Power 995i have the same easily adjustable fan controls.

Program Selection – It is easier to pick out a program on the C990. Users can choose their workout category, see a visual representation of the exercise program, and also see if the program is rated for beginners, intermediates or advanced users. Where on the Power 995i, users can only choose from the tempo or interval workouts and need to scroll through the workouts with no idea how the workout will proceed.

Visual Display – One of the biggest differences between these treadmills is their visual displays as the C990 has a 7-inch HD touchscreen while the Power 995i only has a round display, with LEDs for data display. The screen of the C990 is interactive and responded quickly to user input while the static screen of the Power 995i takes some work to understand and use.

Speakers – Decent speakers can be found on both the Power 995i and on the C990. They give out crisp, good quality sound, though both lack bass. Around the higher volume levels, the sound quality on both treadmills breaks down and becomes more crackly.

Once the user has access to iFit Coach, they can use it to go on virtual global runs thanks to Google Maps Interactive. There are also world-renowned personal trainers on iFit, helping coach users through tough workouts. Along with running workouts, there is a massive workout video library with strength training, pilates, yoga, and more workout videos with a variety of exercise programs available.
