Treadmill Review

Updated: 2/20/2022 The ProForm Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill caters to a very specific user. While walkers and casual joggers can use the Boston Marathon 4.0, the main appeal behind this treadmill is the built-in marathon training programs. Its ability to allow the users to simulate training on a virtual Boston Marathon course is this treadmill’s niche. It does not come with other programs.

While the Boston Marathon 4.0 does come with:

  • 10” touchscreen
  • 4.25 CHP motor
  • 20” by 62” running belt

More features are aslo included. However, there are other treadmills with similar features that may appeal more to users looking for greater versatility. Also, as it has been discontinued, it could be hard for owners to receive customer support for their machine. So while we liked the Boston Marathon 4.0, we would only recommend this treadmill for marathon runners who need something to train with indoors.

Price

As this treadmill has been discontinued, it is difficult to find the Boston Marathon 4.0 current price. When ProForm was selling this treadmill on their website, it was listed at $2,999.

The Boston Marathon 4.0 Is Built For Users who:

  • Want a recreation of the Boston Marathon course. The Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill has a program which allows runners to train for the Boston Marathon virtually. The course is accurately recreated so that runners can experience the race before the official race day.
  • Need more than an average treadmill can provide. Able to reach 15 MPH with a longer than average belt of 62”, the Boston Marathon 4.0 goes above and beyond what the average treadmill can do.
  • Don’t need certain extra features. Because of the Boston Marathon’s focus on dedicated runners, it lacks features common in other treadmills. Features like device holders, the ability to fold, and other things are not present in this treadmill.

Why The Boston Marathon 4.0 earned 4 stars

Overall, the Boston Marathon 4.0 is a solid treadmill. We couldn’t give it a perfect score as it is a somewhat niche treadmill, missing features some users may want.

  • High capacity - This is a well-built treadmill, clearly made to withstand heavy usage. Which makes sense, as it was designed specifically for marathon training.
  • Great incline and speed - With the ability to reach 15 MPH and a decline range of -6% to 20%, the Boston Marathon 4.0 offers plenty for users looking to push the boundaries of what an average treadmill can do.
  • Uncertain service - As the Boston Marathon 4.0 has been discontinued by ProForm, new potential buyers may not have much customer support from ProForm. This could create many expensive problems if you run into trouble with your treadmill.

As avid treadmill fans and fitness junkies, at Treadmill Review we liked the Boston Marathon 4.0. However, it did not make us blind to its few flaws.

Main Specs - 8/10

Specs “Quick Review”:

  • Motor Size: 4.25
  • Running Area: 20” x 62”
  • Weight Capacity: 400 lbs
  • Folding: No
  • Footprint In Use (W, L, H): 37" x 64" x 74"
  • Footprint Folded (W, L, H): N/A
  • Incline Range: -6% to 20%
  • Max Speed: 15 MPH
  • Treadmill Best For: Joggers, Runners
  • Electrical Requirements: 120V

Motor Size - The motor in this treadmill is 4.25 CHP. This motor runs a little louder than other treadmills as it is a very large motor, but it is not overpowering.

Running Area - The running surface is 20” by 62”. While other treadmills in the Boston Marathon 4.0 price range tend to have running belts measuring 22” by 60”, the designers of this treadmill considered extra length more necessary than extra width. Considering how steep an incline of 20% can be, it is comforting to have the extra length on the treadmill belt.

Weight Capacity - The Boston Marathon 4.0 has a weight capacity of 400 lbs. While it is unlikely users of that weight will be interested in this treadmill, it does speak to the treadmill’s ability to stand up to heavy usage.

Folding  - This treadmill does not fold, which is common with treadmills that have a high decline/incline range.

Space / Footprint -  The Boston Marathon 4.0 measures 37" wide, 64" long, and 74" high. You will need a dedicated space in your home for this machine, as it is not easy to move and does not fold up.

Max Speed - The treadmill’s max speed is 15 MPH. The average treadmill can reach speeds of 10-12 MPH, so it is pretty impressive that this treadmill can reach 15 MPH. It really makes the Boston Marathon 4.0 a viable option for serious indoor marathon training.

Incline - This treadmill has a decline range of -6% and an incline range of 20%. This range allows the Boston Marathon 4.0 to give users a realistic terrain range to work with while training.

The deck has Runner Flex™ Impact Control. Users can adjust how much cushioning they want with this technology.

We are concerned when it comes to warranty and customer support. As ProForm has discontinued this treadmill, you will have to rely on third-party warranties and customer support if you purchase it now.

Bottom Line Review Of The ProForm Boston Marathon 4.0

While overall we liked the Boston Marathon 4.0 treadmill, its target user audience are serious runners who need to do marathon training indoors. It lacks variety when it comes to workout programs, has no device holders, and does not fold.

If you are a hardcore runner in need of a solid, marathon training ready treadmill, then this may be a treadmill you want to look at. However, know that it has been discontinued and you may not receive customer support with your treadmill.

Best Place To Buy The ProForm Boston Marathon 4.0

With ProForm discontinuing the Boston Marathon 4.0, the treadmill has become heavily discounted and is being quickly snapped up by buyers. As of the writing of this review, there are no models left on the ProForm website or Amazon. You will have to do quite a bit of online searching to find the Boston Marathon 4.0. However, if you don’t want to roll the dice on a third-party treadmill purchase, the NordicTrack X11i has most of the features the Boston Marathon 4.0 has, plus many more.
