Treadmill Review

The Schwinn 830 treadmill is a decent treadmill, with specs that are similar to the best treadmills for under $1,000, which is the price range the 830 falls into. However, it did not make it into our top three list because it lacked some of the better features available on similarly priced treadmills. If you are interested in purchasing a treadmill in the price range of the 830, we would recommend you read through a few more of the treadmills in the under $1,000 price range before you commit.

Price

The 830 is priced at $949.

The 830 Is Built For Users who:

  • Are walkers who want to jog occasionally - The deck of the 830 is not overly cushioned and is somewhat thin. This doesn’t really affect how it feels when walking but becomes more noticeable if you jog.
  • Have multiple people using the treadmill - There are four user profiles built into the 830 so that user can track and save their workout information as well as their custom workouts.
  • Bring their own entertainment - The device shelf on the 830 is the perfect depth for a tablet, phone, or e-reader if you want to use one as you workout. There is even a USB charging station built into the console near the device shelf so you can power your tech as you enjoy your entertainment.

Why The 830 earned 3.5 stars

AS a decent quality treadmill, the 830 deserves some recognition. This did not, however, stop us from recognizing its flaws.

  • Limited treadmill belt area - While the 830 has a 20” wide treadmill belt, it is only 55” in length. This can be problematic for users who are over 6’2”. Competitor treadmills in this price range have treadmill belts of 20” wide by 60” long.
  • Smaller motor - Several competitor treadmills in this price range have motors which are 3.0 CHP while the 830 is only a 2.75 CHP motor. This makes it slightly underpowered for joggers and not strong enough for runners.
  • Minimal warranty coverage - The 1-year labor warranty is common in this price range but the other warranty coverages are minimal at best. There are only a 10-year frame and  2-year mechanical warranty on the 830, where other treadmills have lifetime frame and motor warranties with 3-year parts (mechanical) warranties.

Here at Treadmill Reviews, we perform extensive testing and research on the treadmills we review so our readers can put their trust in us. So, while you may not agree with our assessment of the 830, you can be assured that we gave the 830 a fair chance to prove itself.

Main Specs - 6/10

Specs “Quick Review”:
  • Motor Size: 2.75 CHP
  • Running Area: 20” W x 55” L
  • Weight Capacity: 300 lbs
  • Folding: Yes
  • Footprint In Use (W, L, H): 35.2" x 72.2" x 57.6"
  • Incline Range: 0%-12%
  • Max Speed: 12 MPH
  • Treadmill Best For: Walkers, Joggers
  • Electrical Requirements: 110-120V

Motor Size - The motor in this treadmill is somewhat underpowered 2.75 CHP. This makes the 830 treadmill not really suited to a runner’s needs and only moderately suitable for joggers. Walkers would be fine with the motor size.

Running Area - The running area of the 830 measures 55” in length and 20” in width. With a curtailed treadmill belt, we would not recommend this treadmill for anyone over 6’2” in height as they may out-stride the capacity of the treadmill.

Weight Capacity - The 830 has a max weight capacity of 300 lbs, which is fairly standard for this price range. The SOLE F63 does have a greater capacity of 325 lbs.

Folding  - Folding up and securing easily thanks to a hydraulic system built into the 830

Space / Footprint -  Measuring 35.2" wide, 72.2" long, and 57.6" high, this treadmill takes up a bit less than average amount of floor space compared to other treadmills.

Max Speed - The treadmill’s top speed is 12 MPH, which is standard in most treadmills.

Incline - This treadmill has an incline range of 0% up to 12%.

    • Speakers: Yes
    • Fans: Yes
    • Heart Rate Monitoring: Pulse sensor handlebars, wireless compatible
    • USB port: Yes
    • Audio Jack: Yes

Workout Apps - Scroll between 22 different programs when you use the 830. Along with the manual settings, there are weight control, quick goal, heart health, train, custom created programs, and interval workouts for you to choose from when using the 830.

Display - A bright blue LCD screen is embedded into the console of the 830 treadmill. You can track your workout, the time you have spent, incline, speed, distance traveled, and your heart rate when you check it.

Speakers - Two small speakers are on either side of the top of the 830 treadmill console. The sound breaks up somewhat at the higher volume levels but is decent from the mid-volume level and lower.

Fans - A small fan can be found at the base of the console. It doesn’t put out the strongest breeze, but you can pick from 3 different speeds to help cool you down.

Heart Rate Monitoring - While the 830 can work with a wireless heart rate monitoring chest strap, it does not come with the purchase of this treadmill. You can use the pulse sensing handlebars, but they are not very accurate measurements.

Other Tech Features

  • USB charging port
  • RunSocial sync available

830 Review: Build Quality

    • Warranties - 10-year frame, 2-year mechanical, 1-year electrical & labor
    • Belt - 2-ply
    • Roller Size - 2.5”
    • Cushioning - Softrak™
    • Customer Support - Email, Facebook, phone
    • Return Policy - 6-week return window

Matte black all over with touches of red, the 830 is an attractive treadmill. However, it has more plastic parts than metal, which makes us concerned when it comes to how durable the 830 is going to be in the long-term. Considering the 830 only has a 10-year warranty on the frame, that durability is even more in question.

Any shipping, handling, or assembly fees will not be reimbursed if you choose to return your 830 during the 6-week return window. Outside of the above fees, you will receive a full refund.

Bottom Line Review Of The Schwinn 830 Treadmill

For itself, the Schwinn 830 treadmill is a decent treadmill and fairly priced for the qualities it comes with when you buy it. However, it is outclassed by other treadmills in its same price range.

  • ProForm Power 995i - The Power 995i has a 3.0 CHP motor and an incline range of 0% to 15%. The 830 only has a 2.75 CHP motor and an incline range of 0% to 12%.
  • NordicTrack C990 - The C990 has a 7” HD touchscreen and 32 workout programs, while the 830 only has an LCD screen and 22 workout programs.
  • SOLE F 63 - The F63 can accommodate a user weighing up to 325 lbs and a lifetime warranty on both the motor and frame. The 830 only can accommodate a user weighing 300 lbs and has a 10-year frame warranty.
So, while the 830 is a decent treadmill, you may be better off researching and buying another treadmill in the 830’s price range.
