Treadmill Review

Last Updated: June 9, 2023 The Schwinn 870 treadmill is an affordable and decent treadmill for its price range, though it is not one of the best treadmills its price range. There is some interesting fitness tech available on the 870, with an average number of workout programs, but the warranty is sadly lacking. Short warranties always concern us as to the durability of a treadmill, even if the 870 feels fairly sturdy.

Overall, the 870 is a decent treadmill option when looking for an affordable treadmill. However, we recommend you look at similarly priced treadmills before you commit.

Price

The cost of the 870 treadmill is $1,099.

The 870 Is Built For Users who:

  • Want to jog or walk - The 870 is up for walking as well as jogging, as it has a 3.0 CHP motor and a stable frame.
  • Enjoy competition - With the ability to sync with RunSocial, you can compete and encourage friends who live all over the globe.
  • Like easy-to-use consoles - With white-on-black lettering, the 870 console is easy to both read and use. The buttons are responsive and the dual screens are handy when tracking your workout.

Why The 870 earned 3.8 stars

The 870 treadmill is a fairly average example of treadmills in this price range, though its warranty is lacking.

  • Average features - Many of the key features, from the treadmill belt area to the incline range, are fairly standard on many treadmills in this price range.
  • A bit short on programs - The best treadmills in this price range average around 30 workout programs, while the 870 has 26 programs.
  • Short warranty period - With the 10-year motor & frame warranty, the coverage period is very short on the 870.

Treadmill Reviews works hard to review all treadmills in a balanced manner, which is why we try to recommend you check out multiple treadmills before you commit to one of them.

Features “Quick Review”
    • Display: 3 LCD screens
    • PreInstalled Workout Apps: 26
    • Speakers: Yes
    • Fans: Yes
    • Heart Rate Monitoring: Handlebar pulse, wireless monitoring
    • USB port: Yes
    • Audio Jack: Yes

Workout Apps - Along with custom and manual workouts, there are 26 exercise programs built-in the console of the 870. These programs include ones which target weight control, quick goal, heart health, training, and interval training.

Display - Three LCD backlit blue screens make up the display on the 870. The smallest window will track your Schwinn Fitness Score, and the screen nearby will allow you to track the basics and compare your score. On the main screen, you can have your workout program displayed, the intensity, heart rate, time, goal time, your completion level, and which user is working out.

Speakers - There are two speakers at the top of the treadmill console. The sound quality coming from them is decent and only becomes poor when at the last few highest volume levels.

Fans - A directionally adjustable fan is located at the base of the 870 treadmill. You can choose from 3 different speeds so you can cool yourself down as you exercise.

Heart Rate Monitoring - There is a wireless, adjustable chest strap that comes with the 870 upon purchase. This allows you to have the best heart rate tracking available as you workout. You could use the handlebar pulse bars, but these bars are not very accurate.

Other Tech Features
  • RunSocial sync
  • USB charging port
  • 4 user profiles

870 Review: Build Quality
  • Warranties - 10-year motor & frame, 2-year electronics & mechanics, 1-year labor
  • Belt - 2-ply
  • Roller Size - 2.5”
  • Cushioning - Softrak™
  • Customer Support - Email, phone
  • Return Policy - 6-week return window

The overall build of the 870 is sturdy, and the treadmill does not move as you run on it, even when it is set at an incline. There are many plastic parts, which may crack under rough or even just regular handling. This is concerning, considering the short warranty period given when purchasing the 870.

A fairly inflexible deck comes with the 870 treadmill. This may be an asset to those who prefer a less cushioned treadmill deck. Those who are looking for a cushioned and comfortable treadmill deck may want to try another treadmill.

You have a slightly larger return window when it comes to returning the 870, giving you 6-weeks to try out this treadmill. There is no restocking fee when you return the 870 to Schwinn. Only the shipping and handling will be taken out of your refund.

Bottom Line Review Of The Schwinn 870 Treadmill

The Schwinn 870 treadmill is an affordable and decent treadmill, but may not be up to the standards of treadmills which are actually a little more affordable than this treadmill is.

  • ProForm Power 995i has 30 workout programs versus the 26 the 870 treadmill has on it.
  • NordicTrack C990 is equipped with a 7” touchscreen with Wi-Fi while the 870 treadmill has only 2 small backlit LCD screens.
  • SOLE F63 can accommodate a user weighing 325 lbs. The 870 treadmill can hold about up to 300 lbs.

Best Place To Buy The Schwinn 870 Treadmill

Working with Schwinn is the best way to secure your own Schwinn 870 treadmill. While some treadmill dealers may be able to offer a slightly cheaper deal on the 870, you may not receive the treadmill you expect. Some deals are provided because you will be receiving an older version of the treadmill you thought you were receiving, or you may receive a refurbished 870 treadmill. So, if you want a completely new 870 treadmill in the latest model, then you will want to work with Schwinn directly.
