Treadmill Review

Updated: May 26, 2023

While the ProForm Carbon T14 Treadmill is most suited for walking, it will easily tempt you into running now and then with its motivating iFIT content. The 14” touchscreen transports you around the world to one of iFIT’s worldwide filming locations, so you feel like you are training outdoors. This review of the Proform Carbon T14 Treadmill discusses how the T14 integrates with the iFIT platform and the many other features this treadmill offers.

The Carbon T14 can handle daily walks and occasional runs.

Who The ProForm Carbon T14 Treadmill Is Best For:

  • Power walkers: With a 2.75 CHP motor, this treadmill is right at the threshold of being a running treadmill, so it can take some serious walking. With two fans, this treadmill will cool you off while you feel the burn.
  • Holiday 5kers: You only run races when the racing bib comes with jingle bells or to satisfy the family tradition nobody knows who started. This treadmill can satisfy your lower-intensity cardio needs for most of the year and pick up the pace when you do.
  • If you want a coach but hate the hourly rates: Good news! iFIT is the next best thing to having a real-life coach. The T14 allows you to access iFIT’s content free for 30 days and then with a monthly or yearly subscription after that. Their introductory running series to 5k running and racing are great.
  • If you have a step goal: I’ve paced around a one-bedroom apartment trying to hit my daily step goal a few too many times. Trust me, hitting your step goal on the T14 is much more entertaining and enjoyable.

Pros And Cons Of The ProForm Carbon T14 Treadmill

Pros PROS

  • iFIT’s platform takes your training to the next level on the 14” HD touchscreen.
  • The T14 comes with hydraulic assistance for folding and unfolding, unlike the other treadmills in ProForm’s Carbon series.
  • The device rack is extremely spacious, so you can feel safe placing your phone or tablet over the screen to stream non-iFIT content.
  • The speakers are powerful. I scared myself with how loud it was, so you don’t need them at full blast.
  • The oversized leveling feet help you counteract any unevenness on your floor.

Cons CONS

  • There are two fans, which are powerful and cooling, but they are also pretty loud.
  • This treadmill's sturdiness and noise level are acceptable–not impressive, but they are far from the worst.

Build Quality

Frame

ProForm indicates that the T14 is made with “premium long-lasting materials.” It does feel pretty sturdy, and the crossbar between the two uprights certainly helps. While the console shakes some during running, the treadmill is stable while increasing the speed and incline.

Motor

The 2.75 CHP motor creates moderate noise, noisier while inclining. At 2.75 continuous horsepower, this treadmill is on the cusp of what we consider a running treadmill. That makes it suitable for slower or short-duration runs. I recommend it for walking and a beginner 5k training program.

Running Surface

The belt is 20” x 55”, a tad shorter than we prefer for running. Those with shorter strides or higher running cadences should feel comfortable on this belt, but taller, longer-legged runners might feel cramped. The treadmill’s maximum speed is 10 mph, so it is unsuitable for hard sprinting, and the belt length complements this.

The cushioning leaves a little to be desired. Despite the striking appearance of the cushioning system visible on the side of the T14, it doesn’t feel nearly as soft as the ProForm Pro 9000 or NordicTrack’s treadmills. I consider this treadmill to be moderately cushioned.

The T14 maybe the Goldilocks cushioning between plush and firm for some exercisers.

Folding/Storage

The ProForm Carbon T14 folds compactly due to its shorter belt. The T14 has hydraulic assistance for ease of folding and unfolding. The other treadmills in ProForm’s Carbon series, the T7 and T10, require manual folding. With hydraulic help, you can let the treadmill softly lower to the ground.

The hydraulic arm makes the deck easy to lift and lower.

Incline/Decline

The T14 comes with a standard incline range of 0 to 12%. There is no option to decline the treadmill, so I do not recommend it for downhill training.

Incline transitions are smooth. While following along with iFIT’s programs, the treadmill automatically adjusts to the incline of the on-screen terrain, though you can override it. It is a bit noisy, but it should not disturb your listening.

Features & Accessories

The ProForm Carbon T14 gives you everything you need for a superior workout. The display and audio ensure that your monthly subscription to iFIT is put to good use. None of the features feel extraneous as they work just as you would hope while improving the overall experience.

Console Overview

Large buttons flank either side of the screen for simple speed and incline adjustments. For more precise changes, there are arrow buttons beneath the speakers. I like how the incline buttons look like a mountain and a valley. The “start” and “stop” buttons are between the incline and speed arrow buttons. Though these buttons are easy to use, it is even easier to allow iFIT to learn your fitness level and give you a truly hands-free workout. Immediately beneath the screen, you can also increase or decrease the fan speed or volume level.

Large buttons and accessible storage make for an effective console.

Screen

The T14 has a 14” screen, a nice size for viewing iFIT’s premium content. It has minimal adjustability, only tilting forward or backward a small amount. Users above or below average height may find this frustrating. It is certainly not my favorite for a large range of heights.

The quality of the screen is nice. The size makes iFIT’s platform easy to navigate while running or walking. The screen is quite responsive, so I could still use the screen once I worked up a sweat.

Bluetooth

Bluetooth connectivity lets you pair your headphones for a more private listening experience. I like using noise-canceling headphones when I run or walk on the treadmill to tune out some motor and running noise. Headphones could also be useful in drowning out the noisy fan, so you can still use them while listening to the Feed.fm radio or iFIT’s many classes. I suggest making sure you are in a safe and secure space if you use noise-canceling headphones.

Cup Holders

There are two cup holders. Either could hold a smaller water bottle or a phone. I always test treadmills with my phone seated in each storage compartment, and the T14 was satisfactory in not causing any rattle or bounce in the cup holders.

Fan

There are two fans on the T14. They are very powerful with two different speed settings. The only downside to the fans is that they are quite loud, and I did not like having them on the higher setting.

Device Rack

The screen only permits you to view iFIT’s content, warranted that you have an active subscription. Fortunately, there is an amply-sized device rack for placing your phone or tablet. It’s much broader than many other device racks, so it should stay put even if you have a protective case or PopSocket on your device.

Nothing is missing from the console. It has large buttons, a device rack, and an effective fan and speakers.

Performance

I have a love-hate relationship with subscription content, and I applaud ProForm for making it a little more optional in the T14. By allowing me to watch other content on my own device from the convenience of the device rack, I can train how I want to on this treadmill. Then again, iFIT truly is a fantastic training program (more on that later), and the T14 delivers that premium content to you in a great package.

This is a treadmill I recommend to a wide range of users. It straddles the line between ProForm’s more expensive Pro series and the more affordable T7 and T10 treadmills of the Carbon series. It is not the best for high mileage or speed training. The speed range is limited to 10 mph, which more accurately reflects its intended use and helps prevent you from prematurely wearing out the motor.

OneTouch will take you to the speed you desire.

It has hydraulic assistance for folding, which the other Carbon treadmills do not. It’s also not too heavy at around 223 lbs. For this reason, I rank it as much more portable and foldable than its counterparts.

Proform Carbon T14 folding mech
The folding mechanism uses a kick-release hydraulic arm.

The arms of this treadmill differ from the others in its series. They are textured plastic, which is less slippery than the metal alternative. The footrails are wide, sturdy, and also textured. I felt very supported while on this treadmill.

Proform Carbon T14 handle
The arms are short but textured for better grip.

The T14 feels very utilitarian to me. It doesn’t have a modern, sleek aesthetic. It doesn’t have the premium bells and whistles of higher-priced machines, save for the nice 14” touchscreen. Yet you, for what you pay, it is a solid machine. Dedicated runners might want a more powerful treadmill, but it is fantastic for walking. It’s a compromise between high-tech and low-tech, soft-cushioning and road-like cushioning.

iFIT Subscription & Content Options

The ProForm Carbon T14 comes with 30 days free of iFIT, just long enough to get you hooked! Then you will want to continue with your favorite training series to run your first 5k or explore a far-away destination. There are many different ways to train with iFIT, and you aren’t restricted to the treadmill. Take iFIT with you on your phone to do HIIT or yoga workouts.

There are thousands of classes to take and over a hundred different trainers to choose from. iFIT adapts to you and recommends new content so your training stays fresh. It is a great tool for reaching your goals and progressing your fitness level.

If you prefer not to subscribe to iFIT, you do not have to continue your subscription to use your treadmill. While hooked up to WiFi, you can use dozens of basic programs. iFIT also rotates featured content to let you sample some of the premium content. Without WiFi, you can train in manual activity mode. This displays a quarter-mile race track and a few basic metrics.

Bottom Line Review: ProForm Carbon T14 Treadmill

With so many treadmills adopting a sleek and streamlined appearance at the expense of features, the ProForm Carbon T14 maintains utility. The crossbar between the uprights improves stability, the double fans cool you down, and the storage options ensure everything is right within reach, so you don’t have to interrupt your workout. To top it all off, the T14 has a 14” Smart HD touchscreen, so you can experience why iFIT’s huge content library. Let the T14 take you on a fantastic walk or progress you through a beginner running series.
