Treadmill Review

Updated: June 6, 2023

The ProForm Carbon T10 is a compact treadmill that saves walkers space while bringing them premium content from iFIT. The T10 has all the smart automatic-adjusting features of bulkier and pricier treadmills from ProForm and NordicTrack in a more compact unit. This review of the ProForm Carbon T10 explains why it is a great option for walking or the occasional light jog and interval run.

The Carbon T10 has a smaller deck than most standard home treadmill decks at 20” x 55” for more compact folding. It also weighs under 200 lbs out of the box, making it easier to move. This treadmill folds compactly but does not have hydraulic assistance for lifting and lowering the deck. All of these features combined make this a good choice for smaller spaces.

Who The ProForm Carbon T10 Treadmill Is Best For:

  • Walkers: The ProForm Carbon T10 has a 2.75 continuous horsepower motor, making it excellent for daily walks. It feels quite sturdy at a walking pace and while inclined up to its maximum of 12%.
  • Fitness Newbies: With a 30-day iFIT trial included with your purchase, the T10 is a great treadmill for anyone just starting their fitness journey or wanting to establish a better routine. The iFIT platform offers you plenty of guidance and motivation, so you don’t have to wonder if you are doing this whole “cardio thing” right.
  • Couch to 5k runners: Daily high-intensity or long runs would wear the 2.75 continuous horsepower motor down, but it is plenty strong enough for mixed walking and jogging intervals. The T10 is a great treadmill for anyone who wants to do the next holiday race a little faster than last year but doesn’t plan on putting dozens of miles per week on this treadmill.
  • Rainy Day Indoor Runners: If treadmill running isn’t your jam, but sometimes the weather begs to differ, the T10 could be a great option. You might push this treadmill to its limits when the weather is bad, but it will get plenty of rest in between while the sun is shining and the skies are clear.

Pros And Cons Of The ProForm Carbon T10 Treadmill

Pros PROS

  • The compact design delivers the smart features of larger, pricier treadmills. While using iFIT, each class adapts to your training level or heart rate if you wear a compatible monitor.
  • Soft cushioning makes this treadmill a great alternative for road running or walking. If you want to let your body recover a little more, take things indoors and enjoy the shock absorption of the ProForm Carbon T10.
  • All the features are functional. The speaker quality and the fan are sufficiently powerful for aiding your workout. They won’t leave you wondering why they were included like other treadmills in the same category.
  • This treadmill has a 10” touchscreen and a tablet rack, so you can use the integrated iFIT content or watch your favorite content on your tablet or phone.
  • Easily turn on closed captioning during iFIT workouts so you never miss one of the trainer’s cues.

Cons CONS

  • When running fast, the console shakes a lot, especially if you land on your heels.
  • Normally a fairly quiet machine, the T10’s incline motor is loud.

Treadmill Review Of The ProForm Carbon T10

Build Quality

Frame

The ProForm Carbon T10 treadmill is built on a steel frame. The uprights and arms are steel as well. This could make the arms a bit slippery if you use them while you are very sweaty. The footrails are textured plastic that feels grippy enough to keep you stable while getting on or off the treadmill.

Motor

Here at Treadmill Reviews, we consider a 2.75 horsepower motor strong enough to handle regular walking and some light jogging. If you run on the treadmill sparingly, the T10 would also be a good fit for you. ProForm’s lower-powered treadmills have held up great for me when I run on them intermittently, even for the rare long run.

Running Surface

The treadmill deck is reduced from the standard home treadmill size to make it more compact. Still, I found the 20” x 55” deck suitable for the entire speed range offered by the treadmill. If you are a taller runner or run with fewer steps per minute, you might need a longer deck to feel comfortable.

A more compact belt for a more compact treadmill.

The weight capacity of this treadmill is 300 lbs, which is pretty standard. For larger users, there are treadmills with much higher weight capacities, and a wider deck might also be more comfortable. I recommend the Bowflex Treadmill 10 for larger users as it has a bigger deck and a weight capacity of 400 lbs.

Folding/Storage

T10 is a folding treadmill that uses ProForm’s SpaceSaver Design. The deck hinges before the motor hood, keeping the motor hood parallel to the ground. There is no hydraulic assistance for lifting and lowering the treadmill. The T10 must be manually lowered to the ground. While folded, the deck locks into place using a metal pin, which must also be manually fixed into place.

Despite all the manual components of folding and unfolding the treadmill, I did not find it too cumbersome. If you have mobility issues or a limit to the maximum weight you can lift, treadmills with hydraulic or electric assistance could better fit your needs.

The motor hood remains parallel to the floor to help it fold even more compactly.

Incline/Decline

The ProForm Carbon T10 Treadmill has a 0 to 12% incline range. This is a standard range for treadmills. It is one way that it stands out against the more affordable ProForm Carbon T7, which is currently free with a 3-year iFIT subscription; the T7 only inclines to 10%.

The incline motor on the T10 is louder than I would like. I found the T10 to be quieter for this price range and motor size, so I was disappointed to find that ruined by the loud incline transitions. The transitions themselves were slower and less smooth than higher-end treadmills.

Like the hinge mechanism for folding the treadmill, the incline function uses the same hinge. So as the treadmill is inclined, the motor hood tilts in the opposite direction.

Features & Accessories

The ProForm Carbon T10 partners smart features with a compact design, something not seen in its competitors, like the Horizon T202. As the middle option from ProForm’s Carbon series, I find something a bit lacking to sway me from the bigger screen of the T14 or the fantastic iFIT deal of the T7.

Console Overview

The T10’s console has a simplified appearance, with all the basic features organized around the touchscreen. There are no additional handles, besides the treadmill’s arms, to get in the way, so I felt encouraged to run or walk close to the console. I had a hard time reaching the entirety of the screen while I was running. If you are short or have shorter arms, you might find the angle of the console not as accessible.

ProForm Carbon T10 Manual Activity
The console is very roomy, so the screen is positioned a little farther away than I like.

Screen

The ProForm Carbon T10 treadmill has a 10” touchscreen. This is the smallest screen I like to use to watch iFIT’s content. The 7” screens, such as on the T7, tend to get a little busy. That said, I had a hard time tapping the onscreen notifications while I was running. While walking, I don’t think it would be much of an issue. If the notifications appeared for longer, that could also help.

The screen can tilt a modest amount, but it does not pivot. If you want to use iFIT’s off-treadmill workout classes, viewing them on a separate device might be easier. The screen’s positioning and adjustability were not my favorites, though the picture quality is clear with no noticeable lag.

ProForm Carbon T10 - Screen + Console
The 10” screen feels just big enough for viewing iFIT’s awesome content.

Speakers

The speakers are not the strongest, but they work. If you find them too weak, the T10 allows you to add closed captions to the classes, so you won’t miss what the trainer says. The closed captions are also awesome for treadmill users with hearing impairments or those who prefer to listen to music without the interruption of the class audio.

The speakers need some improvement as they were too quiet.

Bluetooth

The T10 has Bluetooth connectivity. I paired my headphones and listened to the trainer-led classes with no problem. It is super easy to do, and the sound quality is even better this way. If you have a compatible heart rate monitor, you can pair it via Bluetooth to train within a specific heart rate zone.

Storage

This treadmill has two shallow cupholders. There is also a table rack just beneath the screen. Regardless of where I set my phone, it stayed in place. I would be a little concerned about running with my phone in the tablet rack at higher speeds. If you land on your heels when you run, the console shakes a lot more, so I would be cautious about using the tablet rack.

Performance

My first impression of the ProForm Carbon T10 is, “Finally, a treadmill I can move on my own!” Then I wonder how it will hold up once I get on it. I walk and run on all the treadmills I test. I am confident in how this one can handle walking but running…

Call me impressed; I felt steady while running on the T10. I am a smaller runner at 5’4”, so take from that what you will. Running using my normal midfoot strike was fine; the trouble started when I landed on my heels. After testing many treadmills, I have learned that how your foot contacts the running deck can change your entire experience. Unfortunately, the T10 was no exception. The console shake is more pronounced when running this way, but the screen is still usable. The T10 is primarily a walking treadmill, and it excels at that. Though the incline motor is loud and the transitions between speeds and grades are slow, it did not wobble underneath me.

The console shakes while running but not when walking.

This treadmill's cushioning is impressive for its size and compactness. It holds up to ProForm’s higher-end treadmills like the Pro 9000. The cushioning is more noticeable while running than walking, but both feel nice. The deck itself is very textured, so I never felt like I might slip. The running surface is a huge plus for this treadmill if you can get past its smaller size.

Subscription & Content Options

The ProForm Carbon T10 treadmill is fully integrated with iFIT’s subscription fitness platform. It is like having your own coach to lead you through your workouts. The first 30 days are free, and you have a choice of renewing your subscription on a monthly or yearly basis. If you decide iFIT is not for you, you can cancel your subscription and still use the treadmill.

From my experience, it is rare for preset programs to align perfectly with your ability level. They are always either way too easy or extraordinarily hard. With iFIT, the T10 can learn your ability and adjust the intensity of your future workouts. If you override the speed or incline, it will automatically adjust the rest of the workout. One aspect I overlooked was changing the maximum speed in my profile settings. If you want to put a lower cap on how fast you are willing to go or need something more challenging, I recommend correcting this max speed limit before starting a class. It was difficult to do while I was in the middle of a workout.

ProForm Carbon T10 iFIT Content
iFIT has so many different classes to choose from, and more content is routinely added.

iFIT is a large fitness platform with thousands of classes and over a hundred trainers. You can join a series of classes, which build upon each other, or browse to find your favorite dream destination out of the worldwide destinations they film in. iFIT has something for everyone at every fitness level.

If you don’t want to subscribe, you can still use the treadmill. I think this is still a good treadmill without using the iFIT platform. The non-subscription features, especially the tablet rack, make this treadmill worth it. Without WiFi, you can use the treadmill in manual mode. With WiFi, there are a few dozen preloaded programs to choose from. Additionally, iFIT gives you access to a rotating selection of their featured premium content, so you can try it out now and then.

Bottom Line Review: ProForm Carbon T10 Treadmill

The ProForm Carbon T10 is a compact treadmill suited for mainly walking and some light running. With or without iFIT’s premium content, this treadmill is a joy to use because of its soft cushioning and sturdy build. The T10’s simplified design makes this a great fit for primarily outdoor walkers or runners wanting an improved at-home experience for inclement weather days. iFIT’s vast content library allows the T10 to give you a unique and exciting daily walk or hike.
